About This Scheme

Bluesky Certification’s UKAS accredited General Performance Window and Door scheme is designed to provide manufacturers of external windows and doorsets the means to demonstrate that their products meet the relevant British Standards for general performance characteristics for external windows and door sets. This is done through initial type testing of the window or door set design, implementation and monitoring of the FPC, with annual or bi-annual FPC audits (depending on the manufacturer’s ISO9001 certification status) and audit tests to verify the ongoing performance of the product.
The scheme applies to the weather performance and general durability characteristics of external windows and door sets manufactured from one of the following materials:
  • Aluminium
  • Aluminium / timber composite
  • PVC-u
  • Timber
  • Steel.

Initial requirements:

Initial Type Test requirements
In order to apply for the scheme, customers must supply the following full Initial Type Test evidence for the following standards for each product design to be considered:   
  • BS 6375-1 – Air tightness and water leakage
  • BS 6375-2 – Operational forces and mechanical strength
  • BS 6375-3 – Additional performance characteristics (parts that are relevant for the end use application for the product including the cycling test).

Initial factory audit
An initial audit will be required for each factory to be covered by the scheme to Factory Production Control requirements are met.

Surveillance requirements:

Audit visit requirements
Once certified, surveillance visits for each factory will be conducted annually for members with UKAS accredited ISO9001 certification, or six-monthly surveillance visits for each factory that does not have UKAS accredited ISO09001 certification.

Ongoing audit test requirements
The following audit tests are required for members of the General Performance Window and Door scheme:
  • BS 6375-1 – Air tightness and water leakage – every 3 years
  • BS 6375-2 – Operational forces and mechanical strength – every 3 years.
