About This Scheme

Bluesky Certification’s UKAS accredited Fire Door Manufacture scheme is designed to provide manufacturers of internal and external fire door sets the means to demonstrate that their products meet the relevant standards for fire (and smoke as applicable) resistance performance characteristics of door sets: BS 476 part 22 (to be phased out in 2029) or EN 1634.

This is done through Initial Type Testing of the door set design, an assessment report or Extended Application Report (EXAP) to cover any variations in the tested design, implementation and monitoring of the Factory Production Control, with annual or bi-annual FPC audits (depending on the manufacturer’s ISO9001 certification status). The scheme applies to the manufacture of timber, PVCU and composite door sets. It does not cover door sets that are entirely made from steel.

Initial requirements:

Initial Type Test evidence:
Fire Doorset manufacturers must supply evidence to the following standards: BS 476 Pt 22 (Field of Application reports and/or Extended Field of Application Reports) or BS EN 1634 (Classification reports with associated test evidence). Where blank/door core products are being used, customers are required to submit written letters of permission from the blank or core manufacturer (to use their products and test evidence) with the relevant test evidence.

Initial factory audit:
An initial audit will be required for each factory to be covered by the scheme to Factory Production Control requirements are met.

Surveillance requirements:

Audit visit:
Once certified, Fire Door Manufacturer members will have annual surveillance visits for each factory that has accredited ISO9001 certification, and six-monthly surveillance visits for each factory that does not have accredited ISO9001 certification.

Fire test audit:
Where members are using another party’s test evidence, a fire test audit is required within the first 12 months of joining the scheme. Members of the Bluesky Certification Scheme, must carry out audit tests every 3 years (for BS 476 Part 22 and BS EN 1634 standards).
